Tips for Success

Reading for Research:

  • When you see names of experts in the field you are studying and relevant organizations (e.g., academic programs, nonprofits, and government agencies and programs) mentioned or quoted and you think what they're talking about might be helpful for your research, be sure to make a note of them. You can look for more information using the Big Search, in the News Resources and using Google

  • Be sure to make a note of any synonyms and/or related terms or related subjects that you encounter.

  • When you see important statistical data and/or legislation related to your topic, make sure to look closely at the date of the statistical data or legislation.

  • If your statistical data is more than a year old, try to find updated statistics (Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't). *Always* look to see if more recent legislation has passed or has been proposed.

  • If there is a Bibliography or Additional Resources provided, use them! They are included to help you with your research.
