What to Look For

Tips for Researching your Person

Make a note of the names and dates of major events that relate to his/her/their activism. These are important facts, as well as keywords you can use to refine your research.

Example: If searching for Cesar Chavez, include the grape strike/boycott of 1965 to 1970.

Make a note of the names of other people and/or organizations that your person worked for and laws and establishments that your person worked to change.

Example: As a young man, Chavez worked for the Community Service Organization (SOC). Later Chavez, along with Dolores Huerta, founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), which was eventually renamed United Farm Workers (UFW). He remained committed to La Causa - the fight for farmworkers' rights - throughout his life.

Country and Culture Information

For historical figures, focus on the country during the period when the person was active as well as his/her legacy today.
