English 273 - The Historical Narrative: Database Resources

Example: I’m writing a chapter in the larger story of Malala Yousafzai.

 

1. Choose a biographical database from below.

  • Look at a few general reference articles - make note of the source. Start with encyclopedia entries.
  • Get a sense of the overview of Malala's life.

 

2.  Pick an interesting story that fits your purpose.

  • When did Malala start her fight for equal rights?

  • What obstacles did Malala face (pick a significant one)?

  • What has Malala accomplished and how does she feel about it/them?

 

3. Search for more articles in diverse sources (use different databases).

  • keep a list of keywords about events/experiences/accomplishments
  • record important dates
  • find interviews or documentaries by or about Malala

 

4. Dig deeper and don't forget to save your citations!
